With a portfolio that includes the creation of flagships for Prada, Spencer Hart, Hunter and Miu Miu, Interior architects Shed had all the right credentials when approached by Harrods to re-design their prestigious Shoe Salon.
Shed wanted the design of the department to be synonymous with Harrods and so created a dramatic space and sense of expectation which customers experience from the moment they arrive. The finished look is Art Deco inspired with the spirit and essence of the Golden Era reflected and referenced across materials, furniture and fittings as well as curves, lines and colour schemes; Sorbet colored marbles, solid brass fixtures and lacewood veneers are feminine and luxurious; The floor is a sleek, ice blue, glass composite punctuated by Guggenheim inspired brass trims that make sweeping curves and statement lines, whilst defining each aspect of the shop floor.
The Shoe Salon will carry 52 brands and a total of around 3200 shoes; service and experience were the key factors Shed needed to consider when designing this 15,000ft functioning space and within an overall concept that has to revolve around each customer. From personal consultation to making a purchase all from the comfort of a seat, Shed used their skill in retail design and knowledge of materials to develop a department that would both excite and entice the customer. Furnished areas will play a big part in this customer experience and Shed chose soft carpeting and specially commissioned George Smith upholstery in bold prints and ice-cream colours – adding to the drama and luxury of this exquisite space whilst encouraging customers to linger in very beautiful and elegant surroundings.
A magnificent 30m light feature stretches above the main area (more de ions?) the new walkway is shaped by a colonnade of chandeliers with bespoke fixtures previewing the newest and most popular collections.
