Group Project Devon McIntyre: Spatial Design Lucinda Blemish: Industrial Design Alice Clifford: Graphic Design Josie Schultz: Graphic Design Maya Jazbani: Graphic Design Natalie McMuarry: Graphic Design Wellington High School is a central city high school has a diverse and vibrant student body. This is mirrored by an equally diverse interior colour palate and layout of buildings and spaces. Inhabiting an inner city space the schools growth has had made the most of the land available and in turn is confusing to navigate throughout the school. Our way finding system utilises the array of architectural features and angels of the school to provide beacons of direction. The exterior of the buildings are clearly indicated by our large scale letters to immediately situate and reassure the user of their location,at all major entrances. Our grid system consists of yellow squares adapted to their location to provide the user with an eye-catching sign but also the repeated nature and warm colour of the beacon facilitates recall better so the users learn their way faster and learn to look for the yellow if they are unsure of their direction. The signs will be steel decided on for its durability and adaptability and as they are long lasting there will be low maintenance costs. The steel is magnetic so has the ability to have temporary signs display notifications of room changes, and other updates for night school users less familiar with the spaces. The signs are used as consciously as possible so they retain their individuality and contrast to the space. By using the existing architecture as the inspiration for our system we have found the solution in the problem. Engaging with the peculiarities of the space our system reinvigorates it and creates a clear and lasting solution to WHS wayfinding problems. This system that allows all users to feel confident and reassured in the physical space we are helping them feel confident in the educational space to achieve their goals.
